Product name changes
Throughout history women have been known to show incredible strength when their child is in danger. This strength that mothers show is so extraordinary that we often forget the fortitude many mothers show every day in caring for their kids.
Do you know a superhero mum? Whether it’s your own mum, a family member, your wife or a mum you admire, here are just a few of the different identities that superhero mums wear:
Duty: First point of call for all physical and emotional needs.
Special skills: Can administer a bandaid, spot a bad day by the way the school bag falls to the floor, and can sense when a child needs an early night just by looking at the subject.
Superpower: The best hug in the world.
Duty: Commissioned with the responsibility to keep kids safe from harm until adulthood.
Special skills: Stops babies from rolling off the change table, helps toddlers negotiate around household furniture, buckles up car-seats (even mid-tantrum), and able to catch preschoolers before they wander off in crowds.
Superpower: Multitasking so well that you’d swear they’d grown an extra limb for every child.
Duty: To know what’s wrong from a baby’s cry, a toddler’s babble, or a teenager’s grunt.
Special skills: Can detect what’s wrong from limited data, and can usually solve the problem with a practical solution.
Superpower: Longevity. When these kids are struggling with their own children, they’ll ask themselves, “What would mum do in this situation?”
Duty: To foster a strong moral conscience in her children.
Special skills: Being a role model for her kids from the moment they’re born.
Superpower: Teaching a child to know they’ve done something wrong with just a single look.
Duty: Getting everyone to where they need to be, when they need to be there.
Special skills: Can navigate her way through roadworks, traffic jams and around cyclists while still keeping the kids entertained.
Superpower: Somehow managing to always be on time, no matter what disasters have occurred.
Duty: To keep her kids clothed in public.
Special skills: Managing to wash her child’s favourite outfit every night so it’s fresh for the morning, because they refuse to wear anything else.
Superpower: Getting her kids clean and clothed every morning – a lot of the time without their help!
Duty: Prepares and manages all adventures
Special skills: Prepares nappy bags, school bags, and suitcases for all outings, from a trip to the park to a trip around the world. While everyone else is playing, this mother is planning the next venue, meal or toilet stop.
Superpower: Managing to remember everything essential that her child has forgotten.
Duty: Keeps peace in the home by finding the truth and distributing justice.
Special powers: Able to extract the truth from exaggerated accounts of sibling misdemeanours, then being a fair enforcer of justice.
Superpower: Patience, wisdom, and knowing what punishment fits the crime.
Duty: Solve family hunger.
Special skills: Able to whip up a meal from an empty pantry to satisfy a family with different tastes. Fills lunch boxes, prepares on-the-go snacks, and forsakes a well-deserved rest to tackle the local supermarket.
Superpower: Junk food repellant. This mother knows how to detect true human hunger by briskly offering a healthy snack alternative in response to a child’s cry for junk food.
Duty: Seamlessly alternates between night and day shifts.
Special skills: Ready at a bleary moment’s notice to respond to nightmares, insomnia, vomiting, coughing, sleepwalking, and monsters under the bed. Able to escort children safely to the bathroom at night, and clean up the bed when the kids don’t make it that far.
Superpower: Able to cross a lego-laden floor at night without waking a sleeping child.
Duty: Encouraging her children to take pride in their accomplishments.
Special skills: Working behind the scenes to build character and independence in their children.
Superpower: They can keep a child motivated and on task with just a few well-chosen words.
How has your mum been a superhero for you?
