Your child’s first birthday is a milestone that you most certainly should celebrate. Sure your baby might not remember it, but you will!
A first birthday celebration is one of the most precious celebrations you’ll ever have. Reflect upon the previous year, and your child will never change as significantly as they have in these last 12 months. So much has happened, you’ve been through so much together, why not celebrate this miracle of life before you?
To keep your celebration stress-free, think about your child. If you have a sensitive or shy child who doesn’t like large crowds and lots of noise, host something simple at home. Does your child love to eat, sit, play, run? Do they like to be outdoors or love balloons? Do they like animals? Do they get grumpy if they’re tired, or clingy when you get distracted? Consider the comforts of your child when planning, and you’ve got the fundamentals of a great birthday party. Remember timing is everything, so try to plan it for a time when your child will be well-rested and ready to enjoy the event.
Remember, every child is different, so every party should be too. Celebrate your own way and you’ll remember the day forever.

Tips to celebrate your little one’s first year in style
- Whether it’s a simple affair or an extravagant soiree, stay relaxed and your child will too. Your child responds to your reactions, so show your child how fun a party can be and enjoy it!
- Keep the party short (a couple of hours will do) and make or buy a creative cake. It’s all about the cake at this age, and your baby will love looking at it just as much as they enjoy eating it! If you’re serving food, consider outsourcing so you’re not trying to do everything yourself.
- If you’re running around stressed before the party, your little one will pick up on your anxieties and won’t enjoy the experience. Get help from others too, so that should your baby need some downtime, you can happily slip away or have Grandma duck out of the room with him.
- Most importantly, take photos early, before the guests arrive and before your one year old gets distracted and tired.
